In the early years of computers and computing, the office paradigm was to have a mainframe loaded with a database or two that were relevant to its business. Growing that data was limited to the company's ability to outreach, using print advertising and sales people. Word of mouth campaigns were big, and good enough to churn up a good chunk of business.

Presently, we are experiencing a shift in the way we operate, business as usual. Just as you have punched up this page to find a little more about my company, I, too, had to search the internet for a good definition of the term: cloud computing.

The term means nothing more than being able to get things done faster and more efficient by using applications (programs) supplied by the service provider (the big ones are Google, Microsoft, Apple). Being able to search and find what you need, at a speed greater than ever; attending seminars from your desk top, filing reports for constituents across the globe, buying or selling your products or services without walls or boundaries... is also computing in the cloud.

The cloud service providers supply the software applications (located on their servers, accessed by you through the internet) to you, the user, enabling you to access and process data into useful solutions. This work is done by you, where ever you have access to the internet.

Generally, this data and the program application are stored on computer servers located almost anywhere. The access to disseminate or process the data is generally accessed through the browser on a desktop, laptop, or mobile device. The report is saved locally or on the distant server, for easy access.
